About our Cobalt Flatted Shank Cutters
These are your first go to option if you are running hobbyist machines or older machines (e.g. Bridgeport or equivalent) that do not have the high RPMs of industrial CNC Machines. For example these would be ideal for machines with an RPM circa 2500 or less. There is a misconception that solid carbide milling cutters are the best tools to use on a milling machine but on machines with low spindle speeds these are more likely to chip or break AND be significantly more expensive. For this reason Cobalt and HSS tooling is a far better alternative. High Speed Steel Cobalt (HSCo) is more wear resistant in comparison to HSS and tougher than carbide.
Features
High Speed Steel with 8% Cobalt.
Centre Cutting - Allows for plunging.
Flatted shank (allows operator to hold in: Collets, Weldon Holders & Chucks)
Benefits
Low cost solution for general machining of a variety of materials.
Ideal for machines with low spindle speeds (circa 2500rpm)
Less prone to chipping than carbide
More wear resistant than HSS
Application
Best for general machining of Steels but also good on Non Ferrous metals (Aluminium, Brass Copper etc).
